Ask Mom what would help her feel comfortable.

Would she like you to be there? Is there a time of day she prefers? Let her help shape the introduction.

Share the everyday details.

The name she likes to be called. Her morning routine. What she welcomes help with and what she wants to do herself. The printable Mom We Should Know page gives you a place to start.

Keep the first conversation simple.

Make room for a proper hello before talking through tasks. Invite Mom to explain how she likes things done.

Check in afterward.

Ask what felt comfortable and what didn’t. Bring concerns to the person coordinating care, and agree on what needs to change before the next visit.

Have these ready before they arrive.

Her medication list. Her doctors’ details. How the door works and where to park. What she likes for lunch. Anything in the house that needs explaining. Five minutes of this saves the first visit from becoming an interview.

If it did not feel right, say so early.

Personality is not a small thing when someone is in her home. Tell whoever coordinates the care in the first week rather than waiting to see if it settles. Asking for a different match is a normal request, not a complaint, and you should not have to justify it at length.
