Who exactly is coming, and will it be the same person?
Ask how many people will be in the rotation, how they are introduced, and what happens when the regular person is sick or on holiday. Consistency is the thing families miss most when it is gone.
What is checked before someone enters her home?
Ask what background checks, references, training and insurance are in place, and ask to see it rather than hear it. Ask whether the people who come are employees or subcontractors.
What does it cost, in writing, for a normal week?
Ask for the rate, the minimum hours, cancellation terms, holiday rates and what would change the price. Ask what is not included. Then ask for the same on one page you can take away.
What happens when something goes wrong?
Who do you call at night, how quickly does someone answer, and what happens after a complaint? Ask for an example of a problem they handled last month, and listen for a process rather than a promise.
Who pays whom, and for what?
If anyone is helping you choose between providers, ask plainly whether they are paid by those providers, how much, and whether their list includes every option or only the ones that pay. We are paid by the providers we introduce you to, and you should expect a straight answer to that question from anyone.
